I am a Newmarket chiropractor and I believe one of my primary roles is education. Educating a patient on why they “feel” the way they do. Then what can be done to begin the process of healing. Pause for a moment and think about this – neck pain, headaches, and low back pain are not THE problem. Rather they are the result (symptom) of an unidentified underlying issue. Make sense? At the end of the day, correcting your problem will restore your quality of life – playing with your kids, going for a walk, golf, or travel.
Certainly, the quickest and easiest way to mask neck and low back pain, or headaches is by taking a pill. I used to suffer from debilitating migraines, so I understand the need for covering up the pain using any means possible, including pills. However, if your symptoms come and go, there is an underlying reason for this. It is likely due to the fact you are either unknowingly doing something to cause your symptoms or not doing something that could prevent them from recurring.
Your goal should be to prevent or correct the underlying cause of your recurring pain. Acknowledging that your pain is caused by some underlying reason is the first step. Merely masking the symptoms is no longer OK with you. Setting a goal to find the underlying cause and eliminating it must be your mindset, otherwise you stay in a “symptom” only mindset, not in a “fix-the-cause” mindset. In our chiropractic office, we look to first find the underlying reason your body is not working right. This first step is necessary to address the underlying cause to your problem. If we can find it with our testing, then we can start working on helping your body heal and getting your quality of life back.
